Father Grechishkin was born near Charkov (in modern Ukraine) into the family of Orthodoxclarifyme|date=July 2008 priest. In 1920 he emigrated west due to Russian Communist persecution against Catholicism.fact|date=July 2008 In 1921 he was ordained an Orthodox priest.

In 1930, believing in the Catholic Church, he converted from Orthodoxy. From 1931 to 1945 he was Rector of the Russian Catholic mission in Vienna, then in Paris. He retired in 1964.
