Second period of World War II

The Second period of World War II describes the events on the Eastern Front form the Soviet historiographic method of periodisation. The period is formally known as the Second Period of the Great Patriotic War and its duration is determined to be from 19 November 1942 - 31 December 1943. [p.37-42, Glantz] The period includes

* Winter Campaign of 1942-1943 from 19 November 1942 to 3 March 1943, commenced with the Stalingrad Strategic Offensive Operation and ended with the prolonged Taman Offensive Operation on 10 May 1943.
* Summer-Autumn Campaign of 1943 from 1 July to 31 December, commenced with the Kursk Strategic Defensive Operation, and culminated with the final operations for the liberation of Kiev, the Kiev Strategic Offensive and Kiev Strategic Defensive operations on 22 December 1943.
