Saint Columban College, a Catholic school founded by the Missionary Society of St. Columban (MSSC), is the largest(in terms of assets) and leading educational institution in Pagadian City and in the entire Zamboanga del Sur province of the Philippines.

Humble beginnings & History

Saint Columban College was established in 1957 by Fr. Sean Nolan of the Missionary Society of St. Columban together with the Sisters of Saint Paul de Chartres as a high school academic community with the name, Saint Columban School. In 1958, the high school was in full operation with that time new school director, Fr. Patrick Campion,MSSC and was able to produce its first 55 graduates.

Few years after, it began to offer its first four collegiate courses: liberal arts, education, secretarial, and commerce. The opening of the college department led to the fast growth of the school and the construction of the 3-storey building for the College Department which has now been occupied by the Grade School department after the transfer of the College Department to its current campus in 1968.

A year after, the Grade School was opened and was in full operation with Sr. Eugenie de Marie, SPC, as principal. Saint Columban School was then renamed to Saint Columban College.

The ownership of the school was turned over to the Diocese of Pagadian through Bishop Jesus Tuquib who was also serving as chairman of the board of trustees at that time. After the turnover, Fr. Jose Maria Luengo became the first Filipino president of the school.

In 1978, the SCC Hymn and march was composed by Fr. Jose Maria Luengo, Msgr. Patricio Getigan and Sr. Agnes Lawrence Catalan.
