Lance Green

Lance Green is an English-born Trombonist living and working in Scotland.

Notable Working Achievments

Lance Green is a teacher of the trombone at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD). He is also Professor of Trombone at the University of Memphis (USA). [ [http://www.ita-web.org/news/positions%20filled.htm Positions Filled ] ]

He was the Principal Trombone of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for many years until he stepped down from the post in 2008. His replacement was to be his pupil, Davur Juul Magnussen, who hails from the Faroe Islands. Davur studies the trombone with Lance as his teacher at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and is still working to complete his BMus degree. Lance can also be credited with the invention/development of a detachable system of tubing which when in use lowers the pitch of the trombone from Bb into F. He cannot be credit with the "initial" invention of this system (called a "plug") but merely with the development of it as a "detachable" system.Currently the majority of trombones are either "straight" trombones, with no "plug" or Bb/F trombones "with" a plug. The detachable plug gives the player both the option of having a plug or not having one, without having to buy more than one trombone. This system has not as yet, been commercially marketed.

Educational Input

As well as teaching the trombone at university level Lance contributes to the education of younger trombonists by attending the annual "side-by-side" event arranged between the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the West of Scotland Schools Orchestra Trust [http://wsso.org.uk/wssso.shtml] .He also participates in various Brass Masterclasses for the same oraganisation.
