Savala River

Savala ( _ru. Савала) is a river in Tambov and Voronezh Oblasts of Russia. It is a right tributary of the Khopyor River (a tributary of the Don River). The Savala is 285 km in length, with a drainage basin of 7720 km². It flows over the southern part of the Oka-Don plain. Its main tributary is the Yelan River. Most of the rivers waters are from melting snow. Its average discharge is 20 m³/s. It freezes over in late November, and stays icebound until the spring thaw starts in late March / early April. The town of Zherdevka is situated by the banks of the Savala.
