Rao Bahadur IGP P.K.Monnappa

Pemmanda.K.Monnappa was born and brought up in Coorg. During the Raj, he cleared the IPS exam and made DGP of Madras State. Those days IGP was the highest position in the state police. In 1948, he was made IGP of Hyderabad State. He helped suppress the Nizam's rebellion in Hyderabad in around 1950 as police chief of Hyderabad under Home Minister Sardar Patel's command. In Nalgonda, landlords who supported the Nizam terrorised the common people. Monnappa got this unrest quelled. Later in 1956, he was also made the first police chief of the newly formed state of Andhra Pradesh. Afterwards, he became the first police chief of Karnataka (then known as Mysore) as well.
