Garo Kahkejian

Garo Kahkejian ( _hy. Կարօ Քահքէճեան) also known as "The White Bear" (in Armenian- "Spitak arj", 1962 - 1993) was an Armenian Diasporan military commander during the Nagorno-Karabakh War and the founder and leader of "Khachakirner" military battalion.

He was born in Aleppo, Syria. Kahkejian studied in Germany, then lived in Fresno, California. In 1992, he moved to Armenia and participated to Nagorno-Karabakh War. His "Khachakirner" battalion consisted of Sasuntsis, many of them were awarded by state orders and medals. Kahkejian was known for his independent views, known to have said: "My party is my country".He was killed during the battle near Maghavuz village, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, in June 26, 1993.
