California , where it grows in the coastal hills and mountains. This is an erect perennial herb producing a tall, waxy stem to maximum heights around 1.5 meters. Some leaves occur along the stem, but most are located in a frilly clump around the base of the stem. The leaves are highly dissected into many narrow lobes which are subdivided into smaller, narrower sections. Theinflorescence on the tall stem holds many flowers with purple-tipped white to yellowish petals with curling tips. The fruit is a capsule one to three centimeters long containing tiny, bumpy seeds. The plant is adapted to thewildfire s common in its native range; its seeds are more likely to germinate after being exposed to fire.External links
