- Jorge Moreno
Cuban-American Jorge Moreno delivered some of the most interesting and alternative work to the Latin music scene in the early 2000s; a fusion of pop/rock, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, and urban rhythms are brought together in his debut album, "Moreno". Influenced by his father, Tony Moreno, a Latin music expert, and mother, who used to listen to American rock & roll and British pop. Though he studied Film and Photography, Jorge Moreno became involved in popular music while participating in a trio which disbanded after three years of playing internationally. EMI Music Publishing gave him the opportunity to work as a songwriter, and Moreno later was discovered by Madonna and signed up to the Latin division of Maverick. There he made his first solo album, produced by Andres Levin, A.T. Molina, and Lester Mendez. In addition, Moreno performed a memorable version of
Desi Arnaz ' "Babalu" in a special program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the "I Love Lucy " show.Moreno won much critical acclaim for his debut album and was awarded a
Latin Grammy award for "Best New Artist", Early the next year he nominated in the (Anglo) Grammy's for "Best Latin Album" and was one of the first artists to perform in Spanish on "Good Morning America".He also received much praise and a Univision Nomination for his avant gard Self Directed Video for his track "Mi Sufrimiento", in which Moreno Humorusly confesses that the record company would not pay for another video so he did it himself.
After the dissolution of Maverick, Moreno went indie and was soon asked by Clive Davis to record a track "Satellite" with none other than
Carlos Santana for the movie soundtrack Miramax film "Havana Nights" produced by Moreno's first producer Lester Mendez (Shakira).Moreno then proceeded to release his sophomore album cleverly titled "El Segundo" which started to gather more critical acclaim but was lost at radio in a wave of Reggaeton fad.
Currently Moreno is reportedly finishing an all English album and can add TV Producer to his many talents, he opened a Production company on South beach named Beach Pictures which focuses on Docu-Reality content.
