Infrared (IR) thermal microscopy is a widely used tool for microelectronic temperature measurement and failure analysis. It is a non-contact measurement technique which utilises naturally emitted infrared radiation from a sample. Commercial IR instruments are now readily available, offering spatial resolutions down to around 2.5 µm and a range of options including real time temperature mapping and transient detection.
