Totem tennis

Totem Tennis also known as swingball is a game usually played by children. It has a pole, called the totem, with a ball on a string attached to it. Players use small tennis racquet made out of plastic to hit the ball around the pole. The pole has at the bottom a spike and foot paddles to push it into the ground. The pole also has strong wire coiled around its top, and a free spinning bearing; the ball & string can be attached to either. The free spinning bearing allows players to hit the ball in any direction as much as they like; the coil allows them to compete. The competitors hit the ball in a direction to make it go up or down the coil; the winner is the person who gets the ball to their end of the coil, top or bottom.

A Guinness World Record attempt for the most people playing Totem Tennis simultaneously occurred on the 3rd December 2006 at Lake Parramatta, Sydney Australia. The event was hosted by TOTEM CIRCLE (now known as GYRATE). An Advertising and Events company. The event was staged to mark the launch of the company. In total 108 players smashed their way to a world record.
