Monsieur Poulet

Monsieur Poulet

Monsieur Poulet is a web site selling Fair Trade certified clothes and accessories, with designs created by volunteers.

Business Model

The creations result from a contest via their website. Artists are invited to submit their designs to an open Internet vote, and twice a month the winners are printed on Fair Trade cotton basics, such as T-shirts and Bags. The objective is to promote known (or also unknown) illustrators, while giving them the opportunity to be seen on a fashion item.

The articles sold are Max Havelaar certified. The cotton is harvested in central and western Africa, spun and converted in accredited manufactures in Morocco. The finished T-shirts are imprinted by a 'Green Print' (certified to print without using toxic inks, and recycling waste) studio in southern France. The T-shirts are produced in limited editions (500 per design) and the artist is involved in the sales process. [http://www.monsieurpoulet.com/en/pages.php?page=ccm, How does it work?,16.07.2008]

Origin

The company was founded in early 2007 by two Parisians - Rachid Baalla, ex-Art Director of a web-agency, who had been involved in developing projects in the field of comics, illustration and animation, and Emmanuel Pierson, a previous Executive Manager of an advertising agency. Their first T-Shirts were sold in February 2007.
