Gooflumps

Gooflumps

Gooflumps is the name given to a two-part parody series written in 1995 by Robert Hughes under the pseudonym of R.U. Slime. [The books are both creditted to R.U. Slime, but the inside cover of both books gives the copyright in the name of Robert Hughes.]

Overview

The series consisted of two books that were parodies of the famous "Goosebumps" series by R.L. Stine. Both books were released simultaneously in 1995 by Random House Inc. Both books are now out of print, and although originally released exclusively in the US, the advent of websites such as Amazon.com have seen the books being sold in other countries for the first time. The Books

Both books are not linked in their storylines, but both books featured three taglines on their covers:

*"Buy 2 - that's it!"
*"This spoof is just a goof!"
*"Warning! Not a Goosebumps book"

Despite the similarity in writing and the title spoofs, the books were not actual parodies of any particular "Goosebumps" books, instead parodying the writing-style of R.L. Stine.

Stay Out of the Bathroom (Gooflumps Book 2 ½)

This book, a parody of "Stay Out of the Basement", centres on a young boy who investigates a mystery about people vanishing in the bathroom. His investigation takes him to a sinister-looking Toilet, and discovers that the toilet is actually a teleportation device for aliens visiting the earth.

Eat Cheese and Barf! (Gooflumps Book 4 ½)

This parody of "Say Cheese and Die!" involves Billy Fudder, a lactose-intolerant young boy whose family have moved into a town that thrives on the production of dairy products, and soon discovers that beneath his home is a creature made of Cottage cheese created by his grandfather that plans on destroying them all.
