John O'Shea (rugby player)

John Patrick O'Shea (born 2 June 1940) [cite book |last=Griffiths|first=John |title=The Phoenix Book of International Rugby Records |year=1987 |publisher=J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd |location=London |isbn=0460070037 |pages=p12:32] is a former Nrut|Wales international rugby union player.

Educated at Lewis School Pengam, along with John Dawes, he was capped five times for Wales as a prop between 1967 and 1968 [Griffiths, page 4:37] .

O'Shea was selected for the 1968 British Lions tour to South Africa and played in the first international against Nrut|South Africa. In the match against Eastern Transvaal at Springs he became the first Lion ever to be sent off for foul play, after throwing a punch [cite book |last=Thomas|first=Clem |coauthors=updated by Thomas, Greg |title=The History of The British and Irish Lions|year=2001 |publisher=Mainstream Books |isbn=1-84-018498-1 |pages=pp145] .

He played club rugby for Cardiff.

He is currently living in Australia and will shortly return to the House of Lords London for a reunion with the touring Lions of 1968.
