Shock Top
Belgian White, a Belgian-Style wheat ale, is brewed by Anheuser-Busch and was first introduced as a seasonal beer in February 2006. Due to its immense popularity, the beer became available year-round beginning in November 2007 for both draught and bottles. The name Shock Top was first chosen because it was catchy and fun and did not sound like a brand name. A shock is also referred to as a bundle of wheat. This is represented on packaging and tap handle imagery by the orange with the wheat head, also known as the "shock top". Entering as the Spring Heat Spiced Wheat, Shock Top Belgian White won gold and bronze medals in the Belgian Wit (White) category at the 2006 and 2007North American Beer Awards, respectively. The beer is brewed with two-row barley, wheat malts, imported hallertau hops, along with a blend of Cascade and Willamette hops. In addition, orange, lemon, lime peels and coriander are used to enhance the aroma and taste. The beer has 5.2 percent alcohol by volume. Shock Top Belgian White is commonly served with tall, wide-mouthed glass.
