The pictures he paints are the most honest and sincere imagery of life because he has seen it for himself as a man with humble beginnings. As a strapping young man he was raised to live off from the bounty of the seas. Deciding to be a painter instead of following the footsteps of his father, the fisher’s son who hails from Surigao would excel in the field of visual arts.

Florentino “Jun” Impas paints a vivid world of earth-bound beauty as seen in the lives of people in their daily routines. They may be people doing their humble ways of living or in their pastoral and parochial lives as ordinary folks.

The painter’s realistic renditions of earthly activities and idyllic scenes are representations of the truth. Nothing is made up, just pictures that are true to life. He paints in the genre of realism where these seemingly mundane everyday scenes are given life in detail. His use of life-like forms are made solid and voluminous that can be achieved only in the proper application of light and shading techniques.

Born with an innate talent, he sees beauty in the serenity of his pictures. To him beauty is the reflection of nature. He values order in the tranquility of the landscape. And he finds peace in contentment as seen in the faces of his subjects. The paintings of Impas are distinguished by a character that is very endemic to his direct environment and very Filipino in spirit. The paintings are a positive visualization of the lowly folks who are living fruitful lives.

The artist in him recognizes the value of passing moments, hence he wants them immortalized on canvas. Impas’ motives are plain and simple. He simply wants to record sights that capture his attention. His works, like postcards, are picture perfect. Impas is a keen oberserver of nature.

But aside from figural works, landscapes and countless still lifes, Impas has produced during his many years of practicing in the art profession portraitures that are beyond comparison.

By distinguishing himself in portraits, his commissioned works read like a who’s who of top figures and personalities.

In every brushstroke made, he seems to follow this one rule; Beauty must always follow nature. Jun Impas have come a long way. After receiving several art awards in national and local competitions, his art works have become prized for there sheer accuracy. -- Rictchie Quijano
