- Upside-down cake
An upside-down cake is a cake usually made in a pan with a curved bottom then, once cooked, turned over and allowed to set, and is eaten upside-down. Usually, chopped fruits such as
apple s,pineapple s andcherries are placed at the bottom of the pan before the batter is poured in, so that they form a decorative topping once the cake is inverted.Turning the upside-down cake is a critical process, as if done improperly, part of the cake can remain attached to the pan, ruining the final aspect. In order to allow for a better detachment, the bottom of the pan is usually covered with butter, and in some cases with sugar too. Flour, instead, is generally to avoid.
