Parallel college

Parallel colleges are educational institutions peculiar to certain states, especially Kerala, in India. A parallel college is always privately owned and in most cases it is a small scale institution with very limited facilities. Whereas colleges are affiliated to universities, parallel colleges have no such official recognition. In Kerala most universities have a practice called private registration which enables students who fail to secure sufficient marks to gain admission to colleges pursue an academic programmed without being admitted to a college or a university department. Such 'private candidates' mostly rely on parallel colleges for guidance.

Tutorial college

Tutorial colleges are similar institutions to parallel colleges with more limited scope. While parallel colleges impart full training to its students tutorial colleges merely supplement the lessons given by colleges or schools.
