European Pressphoto Agency (epa) is one of the leading news photo agencies in the world. Established in 1985 by seven major Western European photo agencies the vision of the company was initially driven by a demand for an independent high quality world picture service to meet the needs of Europe’s leading news agencies. In 2003, epa established a global network of bureaus to meet the needs of the growing world-wide image market. Since establishing its global network the company has developed a reputation for its reliability, independence, flexibility and unconventional angle on news coverage.

For the first eighteen years epa built up a high reputation for its unique European photo coverage. Since 2003, when epa launched its global photo service, its strength has also been to cover global events from a perspective different from other picture agencies.

With global headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany the epa service today provides an average of 900 pictures per day to media clients around the world and a stock photo service of 1,500,000 images. The companies award winning picture service is provided by a broad network of epa staff photographers around the world and the daily production of its member agencies, which are all market leaders in their respective countries. The company is represented by Corbis ( [http://www.corbis.com] ) in the United States, by Jiji Press ( [http://www.jiji.co.jp] ) in Japan and Yonhap ( [http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/] ) in Korea.
