Vassiliki Arvaniti

Vassiliki Arvaniti

Vassiliki Arvaniti (born March 17, 1985 in Athens, Greece) is a female beach volleyball player from Greece, who won the gold medal at the 2005 European Championships in Moscow, Russia, partnering Vasso Karadassiou. She represented her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in her home town.

Born in Athens, Arvaniti grew up in Halkida. She began competing full-time on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour in 2003 at the age of eighteen alongside Efthalia Koutroumanidou and qualified for a spot in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, where the Greeks placed ninth (tied). Arvaniti and Vasso Karadassiou ranked as Europe’s top team on the 2005 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour as the pair finished fifth in points.

While Karadassiou was named the top women’s player for the 2005 season by the CEV, Arvaniti became the youngest woman (20 years, three months, 15 days) to win a SWATCH event. She and Karadassiou upset top-ranked Juliana Felisberta and Larissa Franca of Brazil in the finals of the Norway Grand Slam in Stavanger.
