Modern Salon (magazine) a.k.a. MODERN is a monthly business-to-business magazine and [http://www.modernsalon.com web site ] serving and educating professionals in the beauty industry. It reaches an audience of 117,000 stylists, salon and spa owners, managers, professional hair colorists and estheticians in the United States and Canada. Modern Salon is the flagship brand of MODERN SALON Media. Its sister publications are Salon Today and Renew. In 2008, Modern Salon became the official publication of America’s Beauty Show.

Beginnings

Modern Salon began in February 1924 as "Modern Beauty Shop", a monthly trade publication launched by Callahan and Kutill. It had 8,000 readers in 1924, 10,000 in 1926, 18,000 by early 1928 and 22,000 on its fifth anniversary in February 1929.

"Modern Beauty Shop" changed its name to Modern Salon in 1977.

Modern Salon Learning

MODERN SALON Media also maintains [http://modernsalonlearning.com Modern Salon Learning] , an online cosmetology education system for salon professionals to satisfy CE requirements or brush up on stylist skills.
