- Serial art
Serial Art is associated with
Minimalist sculptors , where uniform elements or objects were assembled in accordance with strictmodular principles .Brancusi ’s sculpture "Endless Column" is an early example which inspired the modular work ofTony Smith ,Carl Andre ,Sol LeWitt andDonald Judd , among others.Sol LeWitt wrote that “the serialartist does not attempt to produce a beautiful or mysterious object but functions merely as a clerk cataloguing the results of hispremise .” [Hunter, Sam and John Jacobus. "Modern Art ", Prentice-Hall Inc, Englewod Cliffs, NJ / Harry Abrams Inc, New York. 1986. P 326.] The serial ormodular premise allows for the construction finished artwork whose outcome is known beforehand. It is a form ofsystems art that follows arational compositional process.Footnotes
