- Henry Thomas Ryall
Henry Thomas Ryall (born
Frome ,Somerset , 1811 - diedCookham ,Berkshire , 1867) was an eminent nineteenth century line, stipple and mixed-method engraver. Ryall was known for his portraits and sporting, historical and genre subjects. After studying engraving techniques under S. W. Reynolds (1773-1835), Ryall both lived and worked inLondon . During his career he engraved large and important plates after the art of such contemporary painters as Landseer, Rosa Bonheur, Frederick Taylor, Noel Paton and others. His most famous engraving, however, is probably the large and magnificent, Coronation of Queen Victoria, which was published in 1842.Among Ryall's greatest achievements was his appointment as "Portrait and Historical Engraver to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria." In this capacity he engraved the portraits of many British members of Royalty.
It is believed Henry Thomas Ryall retired around 1865 and moved to Cookham, Berkshire.
