Even in antiquity Emelgem was inhabited. Witness hereby are the prehistoric foundings like buildings and fire stones. Further they were also Roman and Frankishe foundings.
Emelgem was for a long time an agricultural village. Lots of inhabitants worked in the shoe and brush industry in the nearest city. After the
Second World War is the village developed into a residential town and is growed slowly with Izegem. On1 January 1965 Emelgem was added administratively with Izegem.ightseeing
