Shiunmaru

The Siunmaru ferry sank in the Seto Inland Sea after colliding with another JNR ferry in thick fog due to lack of radar in May 1955. Many schoolchildren were among the 160 people killed. This encouraged the Japanese government to go ahead with the Honshu-Shikoku bridge project, the longest suspension bridge in the world.
