Eduwonkette

Eduwonkette is a blog written by an anonymous education researcher. It was originally published independently, but was “quickly” picked up by Education Week where it now appears.cite news | last = Green | first = Elizabeth | date = July 7, 2008 | title = An Anonymous Education Blogger Becomes Thorn in City's Side | work = The New York Sun | url = http://www.nysun.com/new-york/an-anonymous-education-blogger-becomes-thorn/81313/ | accessdate = 2008-07-07 ] Gothamist calls the blog "a regular irritant to the Dept. of Education and the Bloomberg administration." [cite web | last = Hogarty | first = Dave | title = Extra, Extra | work = Gothamist | date = July 7, 2008 | url = http://gothamist.com/2008/07/07/extra_extra_935.php | accessdate = 2008-07-08 ]

"Eduwonkette" told an interviewer for The New York Sun that she preserves her anonymity because “"Universities expect us to devote our time exclusively to research, and blogging is a hard sell in that environment," she said. "It's still a new enough activity that universities don't quite know how to appraise its value."

Historian of education Diane Ravitch calls Eduwonkette's work "brilliant."

Others have criticized her for maintaining anonymity on the grounds that the identities, and thereby the biases, of participants in public debates on education ought to be known.

The blog breaks stories that are later picked up by the press.cite news | last = Wolf | first = Andrew | date = June 27, 2008 | title = Middle Management | work = The New York Sun | url = http://www.nysun.com/opinion/middle-management/80815/ | accessdate = 2008-07-07 ] cite news | last = Wolf | first = Andrew | date = October 12, 2007 | title = Return to Evander High | work = The New York Sun | url = http://www.nysun.com/opinion/return-to-evander-high/64462/ | accessdate = 2008-07-07 ] cite web | date = July 02, 2008 | title = Did predictable test questions inflate New York test scores? | work = SmartBrief | url = http://www.smartbrief.com/news/ascd/storyDetails.jsp?issueid=1AC45B32-F895-46CB-9160-D7112D821E77&copyid=557C109E-AEA5-4372-B2AA-D3BC3FB33BC4 | accessdate = 2008-07-07 ]
