The song is about a king, whose misfortune makes him want to be a beggar, because his problems exist because of his position. His daughter was forced to marry a stranger and she was taken to a far away land. His son was killed on a battlefield. And the king carries the guilt. Although the song's background is set in older times, the first verse refers to present day.
