History

The Glass Ceiling is an Australian Indie Rock band that formed in Sydney in 2007. The group was formed by CJ Morello (guitar), Craig Richmond (guitar) and James Vandyke (Bass). After an extensive two year search the line-up was completed by Jack Preston (Vocals) and Matt Alexander (drums). The band's only release to date is the single “Relative Need” which was released independently in February 2008. The Glass Ceiling are set to release their debut EP “Reparations” in August 2008.

The Glass Ceiling have played along side Australian and New Zealand acts such as Evermore, Grinspoon, British India , Van She and Avalon Drive. The Glass Ceiling also featured at the 2008 Lawn Party Festival at Randwick Race Course.

The 5 piece gained exposure on a National level with their recent success in the National Band Competition Tooheys uncharTED, [http://www.uncharted.com.au] where out of over 2000 bands made the Top 2. As a result of the competition the band made their debut appearance on Australian MTV.

Influences

Initially the band named late 90's rock acts as their influences, but more recent material has shown a step towards a more British sound, with Bloc Party, The Killers, The Smiths and The Cure named as inspiration. Legendary photographer Tony Mott was quoted as saying “Jack reminded me of something like a cross between Morrisey and Howard Devoto. The band has a definite Manchester feel, in all the right ways!”

Name Origin

The name of the band was conceived by guitarist CJ Morello. It is his comment on the difficulty Australian bands face in receiving international success.
