Magic cooking

Magic cooking is a magic trick usually performed for children where various ingredients are put into a special pot and will be "transformed" into sweets which are then distributed to the children.

The Trick

A special magic cooking pot is used for this purpose. It has a large top half which has a secret compartment to store the sweets or whatever food item the magician wants to use. The lid can come off to expose the secret compartment or it can be removed along with the secret compartment. Below the secret compartment there is another compartment where the "ingredients" are placed during the trick. The magician will place the sweets in the pot before the show.

The trick is often performed at a birthday party by a magician specializing in performing for children. An assistant (usually the birthday boy or girl if performed at a birthday party) is asked to come up and assist the magician. The pot is then placed on the table used for the performance, and the lid is removed in a way that the secret compartment remains concealed and the lower compartment is open. The magician will then take out a number of "ingredients" which are to be used in the "cooking". The magician and/or the assistant will place these ingredients into the pot. The ingredients might include things that would not generally be used in real cooking, such as egg shells. Other ingredients may appear to be "missing" (when in fact the magician has intended it this way), so there may be a doubt among the audience as to whether the "cooking" will turn out all right. A match may be lit and dropped into the "mixture". The lid is then placed on the pot, and the magician may wave their wand or say magic words. The lid is then removed to expose the secret compartment filled with sweets, which are then distributed to the children.
