Bids for Olympic Games (ballots)

Following are all results of the ballots during the decisions about the host for Summer and Winter Olympics.

Ballots (Summer Olympics)

1896-1932

The ballots have not been published.

1936 Berlin

1948 London

The ballots have not been published.

The other bidding cities were: Baltimore (USA); Lausanne (SUI); Los Angeles (USA); Minneapolis (USA); and Philadelphia (USA).

1952 Helsinki

1960 Rome

1972 Munich

1984 Los Angeles

Tehran, Iran withdrew its bid shortly before the decision and was no longer a choice in the voting. This left only one bidding city.

1988 Seoul

2000 Sydney

2012 London

Several bidding cities were not accepted: Leipzig (GER); Rio de Janeiro (BRA); Istanbul (TUR); and Havana (CUB).

Second election (Innsbruck)

A second decision was required because Denver was unable to host due to a negative referendum. Sion, the runner up, was unable to host because of lack of time. This meant that Innsbruck, the host of 1964, received the games for a second time.

The other bidding cities were: Lake Placid, New York (USA); Chamonix (FRA); and Tampere (FIN). The ballots have not been published.

1980 Lake Placid

Vancouver withdrew its bid shortly before the decision and was no longer a choice in the voting. This left only one bidding city.

2006 Turin

Several bidding cities were not accepted: Helsinki (FIN); Klagenfurt (AUT); Poprad (SVK); and Zakopane (POL).
