Friedrich Asinger

Friedrich Asinger (* 26 June 1907 in Freiland/Niederdonau (Austria); † 7 March 1999 in Aachen) was a German chemist and professor for Technical Chemistry.

He is well known for his development of a multi-component reaction, the Asinger reaction for the production of 3-thiazolines.

After his teaching thesis at the University of Graz he moved to different positions in industrial research. in 1945 he became the leader of the main laboratories of the Leuna works, where he was kidnapped in the sovjet Ossoaviachim campaign. In 1959 he became a professor at the RWTH Aachen, where he managed the institute for technical and petrochemical chemistry.
