Stuart Dischell

Stuart Dischell is a poet. He was born in 1954 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States. He studied at Antioch College) and within the “Writers workshop” of the University of Iowa, from where he obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry.

In 1988, he published “Animate earth” with Jeanne Duval Editions (limited edition).

In 1991, his book “Good hope road” (published in 1993 - Penguin Viking Editions) was selected for the “National Poetry Series”.

“Evening and avenues”, appears in 1996, in the serie “poets” of the Penguin Editions.

“Dig Safe” appeared in April 2003, still with the Penguin Editions, as his last book “Backward days", published in October 2007.

His work was rewarded by several prices and nominations such as “Daniel Varoujan Award”, (Club of poetry of New England, 1988), the “National Poetry Series” (1991), “Pushcart Prize” (1994), “Alan Collins Fellow” (Bread Loaf Writers Conference, 1995), the “Endowment National off the Arts Fellowship” (1996), “North Carolina Arts Fellowship” in 2001 and the “John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship"(2004) [http://www.gf.org/04fellow.html] ” .

Stuart Dischell teaches the writing of poetry and contemporary poetry at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
