There was no journalist in
Murree in early colonial era and all Britishers, read English newspapers from Colkata,Mumbai , delhi andLahore , provided them by special arrangements. Govt providedUrdu newspapers as "Paisa Akhbar, Civil and Military Gazette", some weeklies in new established vernacular schools. After World War I a new educated generation came into being and demand of newspapers generated. Some Lahore and others cities newspapers supplied by unknown agent in Murree in 1935, and when highly reputed poets of Sub-Continent recited their poems in Raja Kala Khan invented social organization ANJUMAN ISLAH-E-QOOM-E-DHOND (Organization for reformation in Dhond Tribe) take hold in Murree and Circle Bakote, farther demand increased. A new newspapers' sale community emerged in
Rawalpindi after independence and they possessed a hold. Mohammed Fazal of Phagwarhi had a large business. He organised first Akhbar Ferosh Union in Rawalpindi in 1962 and he hold the house of head of union. 90% hawkers employed in this profession now. Aftab Abbasi is an other organizer of his community belonged to Dhond Abbasi tribe and UCPhagwarhi , but not survived because of aland scandal. Tikka Khan is first publisher of Murree who published Weekly Musalman in Islamabad since 1978 and Gulam Kibrea Abbasi was first publisher from Circle Bakote who published weekly Terjuman from Karachi in 1970. New journalists as Mohammed Obaidullah Alvi, Ishteaq Abbasi and Talib abbasi introduced popular journalism in Circle Bakote and Murree Hills in 1988 as they published Weekly
Hill Post in Karachi and after 1990 in Rawalpindi. Four other daily newspapers appeared from Islamabad by foreign investor Raja Metab Khan Keani as Daily Osaf (1997) contractor and property dealer Ilmas Abbasi as Daily Azkar (2005) and a local politician Sardar Sajid Khan as Daily Sada-e-Kohsar (2007). Weekly Musalman converted into Daily Musalman in 2003. A new weekly Hill News published by A D Abbasi of Malkote and Mohammed Obaidullah Alvi in Islamabad in 2004, two years after suspension of weekly Hill Post Khurshid Abbasi of Bakote, journalist of Daily Khabrain and Daily Oasaf migrated UK in 2003 and his newspaper Daily Nawa-i-Hazara started her publication from Abbottabad and Islamabad simultaneously in2006. Raja Mobin-u-Rahman Reala owned ATV Network and become first broadcaster from Circle Bakote. In summer 2007, all journalists of Circle Bakote and Galeat met in Government Higher Secondary School Birote and Announced Galeat Circle Bakote Union of Journalists. First president was Tariq Nawaz Abbasi of Ayoubia also announced a temporary body to compile constitution but fail to organized her. Statusco running still now.
Murree Union Of Journalist
Murree Union Of Journalist came into being by efforts of Salim Shiwalvi in 1975 and he also elected first president. This union divided in two separate bodies now and no progress to promote journalism in Murree. Mostly members are illiterate and holding press card to deal with police, revenue department and Murree Administration.
