- Wayside Chapel
The Wayside Chapel was established in Kings Cross in
Sydney ,New South Wales ,Australia in1964 . It has ministered to the lonely, homeless, abused and dispossessed. In the late 1990's it established an illegal "Tolerance Room" (where drug addicts were able to inject in a supervised environment) as an act of civil disobedience. This eventually led to the creation of the legal medically supervised injecting centre in Kings Cross.Ted Noffs and theUniting Church in Australia were important instigators for the Chapel. The current general manager isGraham Long .It has pioneered far-reaching and innovative developments in social welfare:
