The 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is an infantry brigade combat team of the United States Army National Guard of New Jersey. It is headquartered at Fort Dix.

Background

The unit is a part of the new Jersey Army National Guard. It is a subordinate unit to the 42nd Infantry Division. [ [http://www.army.mil/organization/guardunits.html US Army Homepage: Guard Units] , United States Army. Retrieved 07-03-2008.]

The 50th Brigade has two mechanized infantry battalions, one artillery battalion, one cavalry squadron, and a platoon of military police. These are "heavy" units which are equipped with armored personnel carriers, Improved TOW missile vehicles, self-propelled howitzers.

The brigade's lineage can be traced back to several different units, which eventually combined to produce the 50th Infantry Brigade. Among these units is the 50th Armored Division. Currently the brigade is preparing for a year long deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

50 IBCT is currently serving overseas in Iraq
