The company was formed in 1907 by Giovanni Buitoni, the young heir to Perugina, and Luisa Spagnoli, a confectioner in her own right, in the charming and ancient Umbrian hill town of Perugia in central Italy.Perugina is one of the most successful confectioners in Italy. The company was introduced to the U.S.A at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, and have since become known for fine chocolate around the world.
The company produces a wide array of
chocolate and food products, including chocolate bars, hard candy,nougat andbiscotti . DuringEaster -time, a major product is chocolateEaster egg s wrapped in colourfulaluminium paper.Their most famous product is "Baci", chocolate "kisses" filled with
hazelnut , wrapped in a multilingual (Italian, English, French, German, and Greek) love note. It is said that the Baci shape was created by throwing a ball of chocolate against a wall. This gave Baci their flat bottom.Perugina is now a division of the
