Indian rock-cut architecture , is a complex of cave shrines built byBuddhist monks around 3rd to 2nd century B.C. It is located inKarli nearLonavala , a hill station, in the western state ofMaharashtra between the cities ofMumbai andPune inIndia . It is on a majortrade route that runs from theArabian Sea eastward, into theDeccan .
