Mr. Tam Siu Ping, George (zh-c|譚兆炳) is the current Principal of
Wah Yan College, Hong Kong since 1996, preceded byFr. Coghlan, S.J . He is the first non-reverend Principal of Wah Yan College Hong Kong since its transfer to theSociety of Jesus in 1932. He is also the president of the Grant Schools Council. When Fr. Coghlan, S.J. retired in 1996, Tam was promoted to be the Principal from the Vice. Since then the school has educated several 10A candidates in the
HKCEE in 1998(1), 2000(2), 2001(1), 2005(1) and 2008(1), as well as a number of students who are qualified for theEarly Admission Scheme for local universities (EAS).In 2001, Tam has launched the School Development Project (SDP) which is to renew the current fifty-year-old campus in
Queen's Road East . This project requires HK$103.72M. With Tam's efforts, phrase I of the project was completed in May 2003 which costed HK$38.9M.The greatest upcoming challenge of his leadership is seen to be the change of Hong Kong educational system to 3-3-4. Wah Yan, like other secondary schools in Hong Kong, has to introduce new curriculum for the new public examination system. In order to maintain the top teaching quality of the school, Tam has to consider the finest mechanism for the new system.
