Torneo Apertura ("Opening" Tournament)
The Torneo Apertura will be played from August 6th to December 14th, 2008. The competition is based on a single round-robin format, with every team playing against each other only once. After 19 rounds, the club with most points earned will be declared champions. If two clubs finish the tournament with the same amount of points, an extra match will be played in neutral ground. Champions have a berth in Copa Libertadores 2009.

Torneo Clausura ("Closing" Tournament)
The Torneo Clausura will be played from February to June, 2009. The competition is based on a single round-robin format, with every team playing against each other only once. After 19 rounds, the club with most points earned will be declared champions. If two clubs finish the tournament with the same amount of points, an extra match will be played in neutral ground. Champions have a berth in Copa Libertadores 2010.
