- Bangkok prostitution
Bangkok, Thailand is a southeast Asia metropolis for its thriving prostitution industry. Although illegal since 1960, prostitutes in Bangkok enjoy the hands-off approach used by police in which prostitution is for the most part ignored. The Entertainment Act of 1966 created a way for business owners to establish pseudo-prostitution services under the guise of massage parlors, tea houses, and other legitimate endeavors.Currently, Bangkok consists of multiple "red light districts", including Patpong, Nana Plaza, and the infamous Soi Cowboy. Although prices and services vary throughout the districts, in general Soi Cowboy and Patpong cater to mostly tourists, while the other districts tend to enjoy a steady local crowd of customers.
It is important to note that most all sex industry workers in Thailand have origins in the impoverished Northeastern part of the country, known as "Isaan", which has its own Thai-Lao culture and language distinct from the familiar Thai culture and language known all over the world, which is from Central Thailand (or Bangkok and its environs).Fact|date=July 2008
