Sensation Lawn Mowers were a commercial lawnmower brand created by Howard Phelps in 1944. Sensation Mower Inc. was located in Ralston, Nebraska.cite web|url=http://www.nebraskahistory.org/publish/publicat/newsletr/feb98.htm|accessdate=2008-07-01|title=NSHS Historical Newsletterd, February 1998] Phelps received patent number 2,552,583 on his mowing machine, which featured a rotary cutting blade and friction drive driven by an internal combustion engine in 1951.cite web|url=http://www.google.com/patents?id=-ZFiAAAAEBAJ|accessdate=2008-07-01|title=Mowing Machine (Google Patents)]

Soon after receiving the patent the Sensation Lawn Mower Company was bought out by Gilson Brothers, [ [http://home.gwi.net/~spectrum/snowgilhist.html "Gilson History"] , The Snow Blower Shop. Retrieved 7/1/08.] which is considered one of the founding industries of Wisconsin by researchers at the University of Wisconsin.cite web|url=http://www.uwm.edu/Libraries/arch/findaids/uwmmss41.htm|accessdate=2008-07-01|title=Founding Industries of Wisconsin (Survey project)|publisher=University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee] Gilson Brothers' products were distinctive due to a bright orange and white color scheme. In 1988 Gilson was bought out by Lawnboy, cite web|url=http://www.lawnboy.com/about/history/index.html|accessdate=2008-07-01|title=LawnBoy Brand History and Timeline|publisher=Lawn-Boy Corp.] which was acquired in 1989 by Toro.

Sensation brand lawn mowers are no longer produced but are still in use today. Mowers were available with the Sensation name up until the 1980's. The Sensation brand was preferred by many landscapers because to their perceived high-quality and apparent longevity. The mower was considered unique because of features such as greaseable wheels, thick cast aluminum decks, and some unique innovations like a cone-shaped metal crankshaft support which was purported to help prevent bending of the crankshaft.
