Samuel B. Nunez, Jr.

Samuel B. Nunez, Jr.

Samuel B. Nunez, Jr. is a Louisiana politician and businessman. He was a member of the Louisiana House from 1964 to 1969. From 1969 to 1996 he was a member of the Louisiana State Senate; he was its president twice, from 1982 to 1988, and from 1990 to 1996.

His tenure as Senate President was interrupted from 1988-1990 by Allen Ray Bares of Lafayette, a leader of the anti-abortion forces in the legislature. Senators, in a gove against Governor Buddy Roemer, removed Bares as president in 1990 and returned Nunez to the post.
