Ley was initailly drafted by the
Detroit Tigers in the by|1965 draft but chose not to sign until by|1967, when his chance for the Yankees came up. On December 2, by|1971, the Yankees traded him to the Texas Rangers, who traded him to theCleveland Indians later that day. In by|1974 the Indians traded him to theSan Diego Padres .
