- The Fly (climb)
The Fly is a 5.14d/9a sport route in Rumney, New Hampshire. "The Fly" probably would not have been bolted, except for its bad landing area. It is one of the hardest sport routes in North America.
David Graham made the
first ascent (FA) on 2000-04-01.It has been repeated by:
*Luke Parady (on 2001-04-27),
*Tony Lamiche (on 2003-10-10),
*Chris Sharma (on 2003-10-30),
*Jason Kehl (on 2003 Nov 7),
*Kevin Jorgeson (on 2008 Apr),
*Paul Robinson (on 2008 Apr). Both Lamiche and Sharma pre-clipped the second bolt on their redpoints.
From 8a.nu, "according to both Luke Parady and Tony Lamiche, The Fly is essentially a bolted boulder problem that'd weigh in around font 8B+." Note the difference in route grades and boulder grades. For example,
Steve McClure stated that "...font 8A is way harder than French 8a." Font refers toFontainebleau , the bouldering mecca southeast of Paris.Sharma almost flashed "The Fly", falling on the last move of his flash attempt.
Kehl and Jorgeson, known for highball bouldering, actually bouldered "The Fly".
