Anson Mills

Anson Mills

Anson Mills (1834-1924) was a soldier in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Brigadier General, and a surveyor, builder and inventor. He was engaged in south Texas as a land surveyor and civil engineer and laid out the first plans for the City of El Paso, Texas. According to the Arlington National Cemetery [ [http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/a-mills.htm Anson Mills, Brigadier General, United States Army] ] , he was responsible for changing the name of Franklin to El Paso.
