Eben Matlis is a
mathematician known for his contributions to the theory of rings and modules, especially for his work withinjective module s over commutativeNoetherian ring s.Matlis earned his Ph.D. at the
University of Chicago in 1958, withIrving Kaplansky as advisor. He had at least 8 doctoral students and 10 doctoral descendants. He is now an emeritus professor atNorthwestern University . Though he himself only published about 28 papers, his name occurs in the title of over 40 papers in theMathematical Reviews .Selected works
