Art Rascon

Art Rascon is the anchor for the five o'clock news for KTRK-TV in Texas. He is also an Emmy Award winner and a former vice president of the National Association of Hispanic Jorunalists. The National Hispanic Business Magazine has named Rascon one of the hundred most influential Hispanics in America.

Biography

Rascon was born in El Paso, Texas. He largely grew up in Denver, Colorado. He then began study at Ricks College. After that he served as a missionary in the California Arcadia Mission. He then studied at Brigham Young University where he received a Bachelors degree in 1984. Rascon worked as a reporter for KBYU-FM and KBYU-TV. He also studied European politics and history in Madrid.

Rascon worked as a news reporter for KABC-TV in Los Angeles. He then worked as a correspondent for the CBS Evening News. He covered many events in Latin America as well as in the United States. In 1998 he started his current job in Texas. Rascon received two of his Emmys for coverage of the Kosovo refugee crisis in 1999.

Rascon and his wife Patti have six children. An active member of the LDS church he was serving as a counselor in a bishopric in 1999. In 2008 he was among the church members featured in an LDS Church public relations campaign to show that there were many involved and law abiding church members in Texas.

Rascon wrote a book entitled "The Heart of the News" about his experiences as a reporter.
