Roxboro was a city on the Island of Montreal. It ceased to exist on 2002-01-01. The city was located along the Rivière des Prairies near the western end of the island. Its final population was 6,000.
History
On
2002-01-01 , the formerly independent town was merged with with Dollard-des-Ormeaux to become a borough in the new city of Montreal. When offered the chance to "de-merge" onJune 20 ,2004 , residents of the former town chose to stay with in the new city, unlike Dollard es Ormeaux. Although the vote to de-merge was approved by 67 percent of the voters the de-merger did not pass because the province also required a 35 percent turn out and there was only a 33.36 per cent turn out. Residents of the former city of Pierrefonds, which completely surrounded the former town of Roxboro, also chose to stay in the new city and joined to form the borough ofPierrefonds-Roxboro . The new borough was formally created onJanuary 1 ,2006 . Roxboro's former borough partner, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, did choose to regain their independence and de-merged at that time.External Links
