- Foundry Square
Foundry Square is an integrated site of four architecturally-linked 10-story, mid-rise buildings located on each corner of Howard and First Streets in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.cite web|url=http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_pwwi/is_200805/ai_n25459980 | title=Glenborough's Foundry Square I Opens Doors in San Francisco Financial District] The project’s first phase, completed in 2002, saw the completion of Foundry Square II and Foundry Square IV, two mixed-use, office and retail high rises totaling convert|1200000|sqft|m2. The design teams included STUDIOS Architecture, Jim Jennings Architecture, Page & Turnbull, Inc., Webcor Builders, and landscape architect SWA Group on behalf of the original developer, the San Francisco-based Wilson Equity Office, now Wilson Meany Sullivan. Current major tenants include the headquarters of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and The Gymboree Corporation. cite web|url=http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/cx/?id=foundrysquare-sanfrancisco | title=Foundry Square ] .
Foundry Square I, completed in 2007, mirrors the design, aesthetics and energy conservation strategies of Foundry Square II and IV.
A unique feature of the site was SWA Group’s concept for using each of the convert|1000|sqft|m2 contained within Foundry Square’s four open corners to form a larger, unified public square that embraces the pedestrian movement along the perimeters and creates a “threshold” through which traffic passes toward the nearby Bay Bridge. Each building’s convert|200|ft|m|sing=on dual-glaze tech walls frame the square, establishing an arcade that defines the transition between interior building space for lobbies and restaurants with the public exterior spaces. The four corners of the intersection are integrated by the use of public art and sculpture, tree bosques, ground-floor cafes, and over-scaled pots.
The project earned SWA Group the ASLA Northern California Chapter Merit Award in 2006. cite web|url=http://www.asla.org/awards/2006/06winners/ | title=Alsa 2006 Professional Awards]
