Survey of India Service

Survey of India Service is a cadre of Government of India. The members of this service are responsible for planning and execution of engineering surveys and meeting the mapping needs of the country. Direct appointment to the service is made on the basis of a Competitive Examination i.e., Indian Engineering Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year. Only candidates having a Bacheolars Degree in Engineering i.e., BE/BTech/AMIE from a recognized college/university/institution are eligible to take the examination. All the Group 'A' Posts of the service are Civil Engineering Posts or Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Posts. The streams are desiganted as SIS(Civil) and SIS(Electronics). The Direct Entry level Group 'A'post on the basis of Indian Engineering Services Examination is Deputy Superintending Surveyor. The candidates recommended for appointments to the service are initially trained at Survey Training Institute in Engineering Surveying and Mapping at Uppal,Hyderabad,Andhra Pradesh,India.
